Big Freeze

Ice lens.
We have had two snow-falls in the last week and then a really heavy frost this morning. It looks beautiful and even our son Dan can be lured away from his iPad to play with the ice.

The snow-men we made last week soon melted but now they form a rock-hard, slippery, lumpy obstacle between the patio and what would be the lawn if we could find it. That first snow fell like dry powder; totally unsuitable for snow-balls or snow-men, but it soon melted enough for construction purposes. Several kids even built igloos.

In the cold, dry air we have now, ice is a hazard, but also a big attraction if you put out suitable water-filled containers over night. We have made some lovely shapes in this way and they make good subjects to photograph if your son doesn't smash them first.

Whoops!
Normally, getting Dan out sand away on a school day takes three of us; Hanna, me and Richard his taxi-man. But this week he has been out in the yard before and after school. The best session was with his friends Holly and Catherine. he fell over the big lump but just got up and dusted himself off without making any fuss. He was having such a good time.

I used my old cross-country skis on three days and I'm hoping for more snow in the next few days. It's half term so I bet all the kids hope so too.
