All the same, we enjoyed our Easter Sunday with the Bath Stevensons; James, Jo, Jake, Thea and Molly the dog. Dan made an Easter Tree and Thea helped him decorate it, and there were presents (Dan can't have chocolate eggs because he is diabetic.) Then a massive BBQ was cooked by Jake in the rain.
On Easter Monday I had to do patrols at my nature reserve, which included checking on the livestock. We all piled onto the Erreppi 4x4 (known as Jim's Jalopy) and made the five mile trip round the site.
The first nightingale of the year was singing, but we couldn't hear it above the diesel roar of the buggy. It was great to see that my grandchildren hadn't forgotten my driving lessons from last year. I didn't risk letting Dan drive, but he seemed content to inhale the flies in the back with James.

The rest of the week flew by in a whirl of BBQs, walks and expeditions. Actually, Hanna and our grand daughter Thea did so much cooking that Hanna is writing a new blog about it called Grinky's Numnums.
We had a great Moroccan Night with lamb meatballs in sauce, plus chops and a ton of extras. I can still taste it.
We took the whole tribe to Hayley Wood to see the flowers and climb the rickety tower. Dan did remarkably well going up, but I hadn't a clue how we would get him down, apart from gravity. It took him a while to get used to coming down facing the ladder, but he did it!
The family departed on Wednesday and then our friend Howard arrived from Littlehampton in the 1980s! Time travel is wonderful thing, but it turns your hair white; or so we have found. Otherwise, neither he, nor us seemed to be damaged much, despite the intervening years. Thursday was Indonesian Night with Nasi Goreng and Beef Rendang. Oooohh!
Howard has an eccentric view of the world from visiting Sri Lanka a lot but listening to Japanese music by band he has never seen. He's not been to Japan, and neither have we, but look up these two acts: 100's, Carpark North and Bump of Chicken. See what I mean about eccentric?
