Garden of surprises

Today we took Nick and Dan to the Garden of Surprises at Burghley House, in Stamford. It was our first visit and a spectacular success. Burghley is one of the most amazing stately homes in England and has miles of deer-park and garden (mostly by Capability Brown) to explore. The new garden lies within the sculpture garden and is a delightful mix of sculptures and water features. You really have to take your swimming costume to get the best of it. Lots of families went home more or less naked as they didn't have a change of clothes with them.

Dan got the idea fairly swiftly and was soon pretty wet. What a great place to visit on a hot day like today.
