Snow and ice

We woke this morning to find everything coated with a thin icing of snow and frost. Although we only had a smudge of snow, it stayed all day as the ground was frozen hard after several days below zero. The lakes were all frozen too.

Dan went out to poke the ice in the morning, but soon got cold. However, I came home early and we headed west to hilly Northamptonshire where there was a bit more snow, and some decent scenery. Dan set off like a puppy and didn't really stop walking, running or smashing ice for two hours.

Hanna and I enjoyed the exercise and the nature watching. There were animal tracks all over the place, especially rabbits, squirrels and foxes, and lots of birds. We watched at least 20 red kites come in to roost in the woods at the top of the hill, but the star performer was Dan. He didn't even ask to go to the cafe.
