New Picture

Last month I entered a story in the Bristol Short Story Competition. I am not allowed to publish it on my blog until July but I can tell you what it is about.

The setting is Loch Leven in Tayside, Scotland, and the story concerns the death of a retired miner who just loved to fish the loch more than anything else in his life. He dreaded the idea of being buried in the earth but wished instead to have his ashes scattered on the loch: a simple, logical request you might think. But life (and even death) are never so simple when bureaucracy gets involved.

You will have to wait to see my story, or I could e-mail it to you if you ask me.

Meanwhile, enjoy this braw, tiny-wee-bit illustration by my son Nick.

The Shankie's Wifey.
